Presentation by Selma Genç (iyi, kötü, bakımsız)

My Comments:

The article that Selma presents talks about the quality of the trasnlator’s works. She asked us a question and wanted us to discuss how do you decide whether s/he is a good or bad translator. All of us had different ideas and perspectives about how we decide whether a translator is good or bad. We want to find sometihng from ourselves in the trasnlated works. Then we can say that yes this is a good work because it seems familiar to us. She supported her presentation with appropriate examples and I like this because it makes he presentation much more clear and undertsandable for the audience. She also supported her presentation with questions she raised to us and this made the class to get in a discussion about the translator’s features.

Presentation by Meryem Lüleci (Çevirmen Makine mi?)

My Comments:

Her presentation was one the presentations that we did in our first session. And the first person who gave the definiton of trasnlation and trasnlator was Meryem. So thank to her I understand who is a trasnlator and what is trasnlation really means. She mentioned about the difficulties that the translators have and this made me aware o the problem. I was planning to become a translator but I can say that after that discussion I will not be. She mentioned lots of problems that the translator has like money problem, intensive working hours, and the most important they are notappreciated by the people. We can understand this from that we do not look the translator’s name on the books that we read we just know the authors’ name. This shows how we see translators as a machine.
